Growing up in a musical family actively involved in the Jewish community and spending most summers as a camper and staff member at the Brandeis-Bardin Institute, Michael has long been exposed to Jewish music. He is the director of the acclaimed Bay Area wedding band, “The Shtetlblasters" (www.shtetls.com). He is a composer of vocal and instrumental music, recently signing with the ProgRock Records label and releasing an original CD inspired by Science Fiction stories.

Michael also performs in the popular dance band "With A Twist" (www.with-a-twist-music.com). As a producer and arranger, Michael produced singer/songwriter Arthur Pinchev’s debut CD, “Waking Up Tunes” and jazz vibraphone prodigy Sam Goldsmith’s “Summer Victory Dance” for Michael’s own record label, Sting A Bee Back Records (http://sting-a-bee-back.com). Yet, prior to his association with the Max Helfman Institute,  Michael had never composed music that reflects his deep connections with Judaism.  He is excited to participate in the new Institute. “I welcome the opportunity to participate in the Max Helfman Institute, to work with such renowned and talented artists, and to try my hand at creating Jewish music, rather than just interpreting existing material,” said Michael. “My thanks to the Jewish Music Commission of Los Angeles, to Dr. Richard Braun, Dr. Michael Isaacson, and Cantor Phil Baron for spearheading this exciting project.”
