For me, the Helfman Institute offers the opportunity to meet and encourage my fellow composers, as well as to write and present new pieces within a supportive and exciting environment. Over the many years that I've played piano and organ for High Holidays services, Helfman's "Shma Kolenu" has always marked the musical high point of the season. He was already my role model as a Jewish composer, so to be able to carry on in the institute that is named for him is a wonderful honor.

BOB REMSTEIN has composed over twenty-five Jewish liturgical works, many of them commissioned, including a complete Sacred Service he wrote in 2002 to celebrate the 75th anniversary of Congregation B’nai B’rith in Santa Barbara. In secular music, he has scored numerous video games for SceneIt, arranged and produced music for the Oscar-nominated film, “Little Miss Sunshine,” and, as co-leader of the lounge/electronica group Supercasanova, has written and produced tracks used on TV shows such as “Without a Trace,” “Chuck,” “The Guiding Light,” and on Animal Planet, E!, Style Network, MSNBC, and others.
