Vanessa Paloma is a singer, performer, scholar and writer specializing in Judeo-Spanish women’s songs and their role in Sephardic communities. Internationally known for this repertoire, she has performed and lectured on five continents and is currently on tour from Morocco.
Current Research Associate of the Hadassah Brandeis Institute at Brandeis University, Paloma was a Senior Fulbright Research Scholar in Morocco during 2007-2008. Paloma began her musical studies at the San Juan Children’s Choir in Puerto Rico, later continuing at the Andes University in Bogotá, Colombia. After moving to the United States, she studied at Indiana University’s Jacobs School of Music, where she received a Master of Music degree in early music performance, specializing in the mu-sic of medieval Spain. She is currently completing a doctorate at the Sorbonne’s Institut National des Langues et Civilisations Orientales.
Paloma has participated in numerous conferences at institutions such as Cambridge University, the European University Institute in  Florence, the University College London, the Association for Jewish Studies, and the University of Colo- rado among others.
She is the author of The Mountain, the Desert and the Pomegranate: stories from Morocco and Beyond (2011), and is currently writing her third book, based on the topic of her lecture at the Archives of Traditional Music.

The Los Angeles Jewish Symphony, under the direction of Dr. Noreen Green, is celebrating its 18th year and will perform the world premiere of a new work by Michelle Green Willner, with the Valley Beth Congregational Choir. 

This new work is  based on the 1492 Edict of Expulsion from Spain and the incredibly hopeful journey of the crypto-Jews.
 

Also featured are guitarist Jordan Charnofsky, percussionist Jamie Papish and Persian singer Farzaneh Farnoush.
