In the spirit of Danny's love of music and commitment to dialogue, the Daniel Pearl Foundation launched the first Daniel Pearl World Music Days on October 10, 2002, which would have been Danny's 39th birthday.

Using the power of music to promote tolerance and inspire respect for differences, Daniel Pearl World Music Days has grown to include more than 4,900 performances in 101 countries.

Here's the back story of this performance, from Wendy Prober:

Dear friends,

Please join us as return to Valley Beth Shalom Synagogue for a concert sponsored by the Jewish Music Commission of Los Angeles as part of Daniel Pearl World Music Days. In the spirit of Danny's love of music and commitment to dialogue, the program will feature music that celebrates the power of music to overcome obstacles and inspire tolerance and peace.

The program will open with Michael Fitzpatrick's stirring Invocation to World Peace written for His Holiness the XIVth Dalai Lama and continue with British pacifist composer Frank Bridge's eloquent Lament for Two Violas.  Maria Newman's powerful Solus for violin and cello, written in response to a friend's grave illness, ends the first half.  The program concludes with Erich Wolfgang Korngold's triumphant Suite, Op, 23 for two violins, cello, and piano left hand, written in 1930 for the Jewish pianist Paul Wittgenstein who lost his right arm in World War I.

As some of you may know, I had the misfortune of breaking my right thumb two months ago.  While in a cast and now doing physical therapy, I've taken the opportunity to learn Korngold's extraordinary work taking an amazing journey discovering the power that just one hand possesses. Evoking strains of Mahler and Vienna, Korngold's Suite is exquisitely written and a piece I know you will enjoy. I hope you will join us for this beautiful evening.

Sincerely,
Wendy Prober-Cohen
